Our Story

One Joplin is a city-wide movement of people who believe that Joplin is and can be a truly flourishing community.

When the tornado hit Joplin in 2011, the community partnerships that had been established in years prior, activated at a moment's notice. FEMA and other national disaster relief organizations were perplexed and delighted to see how quickly and how coordinated we were in mobilizing local assets to recover and rebuild.

In 2015, as the tornado's five-year anniversary approached, a group of community leaders set out to discover how we could capitalize and continue to build upon the synergy and collaboration that was so evident in the recovery process. Thus, One Joplin was born.

"We are building community tables where everyone's voice can be heard"
